Chris Udoh
If
the love of music could be measured by one’s constant persistence,
then Chris Udoh is a true testament to this persistence.
Chris has been a DJ in one form or another for over 18 years. By
most accounts, his experience is unparalleled. Chris started his
professional journey in 1985 at the age of 16 in St. Louis, MO.
where he played various clubs and had his music featured in several
top fashion shows in and around the region.
In
1989 Chris moved to Atlanta, GA. and was acquired to play at Atlanta’s
legendary Loretta’s nightclub. It is there where Chris learned
the art of programming and perfected his skill of mixing. His residency
lasted 2½ years. He played there four nights a week for as
long as seven hours each night by himself. The crowd at Loretta’s
became more diverse during his tenure transcending the club’s
main demographic of black gay men. He began getting offers to play
in almost every kind of club in the city.
In 1992 Chris met Chris Clark a.k.a. Deep C in a record store and
the two quickly became friends. Each of them, along with producer
Chris Brann, went on to form the Wamdue Kids. The
trio played the club as well as the rave circuit. As Wamdue, they
had many releases on such notable labels as Acacia, Studio K7!,
Sounds, Guidance, and Strictly Rhythm.
Chris moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 1996 to test new waters
and found himself in very good company in the city of brotherly
love. He quickly became one of the city’s most respected DJ’s.
In 2000 came the formation of Tigerhook Corp., a Wu-Tang type collection
of like-minded DJ’s and producers that really boggles the
mind. Spearheaded by the highly energetic Randal Jones, this crew
of nine has releases on prestigious labels including Hooj Choons,
Saw, Shaboom, and The End.
Deep
C and Udoh have also traveled the globe extensively. Most
notably, they held a two-year residency at Fabric Nightclub in London
from 2000 to 2002, playing at the club over a dozen times. Currently,
Chris has taken time out to concentrate on solo productions as well
as collaborations with other electronic dance music artists.
